Thalainvan Thalaivii Review Movie: Vijay Sethupathi, the chemistry of Nithya Menen could not save her weak history

Vijay Sethupathi and Nithya Menen Starrer Thalainvan Thalaivii struck the big screens on July 25, 2025. While the film was starting to broadcast on the Amazon Prime video of the OTT platform of August 22, 2025, here is IHNS’s criticism to check.

The intrigue

Thalaitan Thalaivii is a romantic action comedy that tells the story of Aagasaveeran, a restaurant owner on the roadside that seeks to get married. In a twinning process, he found the proposal of Perarasi, a graduate with double degree.

While they are from different backgrounds, Aagasaveeran and Perarasse find a link thanks to their shared love for food. Despite the inhibitions of his family, Perarasi’s wife, only to encounter problems in their marriage. What happens to their relationship and if they overcome the challenges constitute the node of history.

Good

Thalaitan Thalaivii is a mess from a narration perspective, but the main actors, Vijay Sethupathi and Nithya Menen, are a pleasure to look at. Their chemistry is absolutely entertaining and remains the biggest point to remember from the film.

The romantic premise of the film, which begins with a traditional twinning session and evolves towards a robust love story, feels obsolete and difficult to digest in 2025.

Coming from the positive side, Thalaitan Thalaivii has a brilliant soundtrack composed by Santhosh Narayanan. The composer Ad Kalki 2898 provides deeply rooted tracks in the Tamil background and gives authenticity to the parameter.

A special cries go to the song, Pottala Muttaye, who presents Santhosh himself singing alongside Coolie Fame Sublahshini. With M Sukumar manipulating the visuals and Pradeep E. Ragav modifying the film, the technical aspects have managed to raise an differently lower experience.

The bad

Thalainvan Thalaivii is a fusion of each bad idea meeting to create a complete mess. The romantic action comedy strives to tell the story of a constantly saluting couple, ultimately glorifying the idea that toxic relationships are normal and acceptable.

While Vijay and Nithya present jovial moments, the story itself turned out to be a wreckage of a train which reassures that any problem with which a couple is confronted in their relationship, divorce is never an option. Instead, he encourages to undergo prejudice and emotional damage as a virtue.

Looking at the previous family business of Pandiraaj like Kadakutty Singham and Namma Veetu Pillai, it is obvious that his narration remains stuck in a bygone era. By normalizing such obsolete values, the film fails miserably and cannot be recovered.

Although the first stages of the film showed a certain promise, it quickly moved from common sense and tested the patience of the public. With howling dialogues and irritating characters, the experience has gradually worsened with each scene.

With problematic content, horrible writing and deaf narration, Thalaivan Thalaivii has become more and more difficult to pass.

Performance

The biggest and perhaps the only quality of buyout of Thalain Thalaivii lies in the performances of Vijay Sethupathi and Nithya Menen. While Vijay does his best with the material given to him, Menen deserves praise for his effortless ability to shine surprisingly alongside any co-actor.

His masterful game, previously seen opposite Thalapathy Vijay in Mersal, Suriya in 24 years, Dhanush in Thiruchitrambalam, or Dulquer Salmaan in Ok Kanmani, also continues to impress in the film.

The verdict

Thalainvan Thalaivii is a fiery mess of a film in her story herself. Although experience is likely to be tortuous for many, some could still find pleasure only because of the convincing screen presence of Vijay and Nithya.
