Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna and Nawazuddin Siddiqui starrer Thamma opened to impressive numbers at the box office, marking another successful chapter in the expanding Maddock horror comedy universe. Released on 21 October during Diwali, the film introduced audiences to the new world of Betal, a place Maddock has owned since Stree Aur Bhediya. Now is the film performing well even after 4 days of release?
Thamma earned a whopping Rs 23 crore on its opening day, followed by Rs 18 crore on the second day, Rs 12 crore on the third day and Rs 9 crore on the fourth day, taking its total earning till now to Rs 62 crore. Although there has been a gradual decline amid the festive season, the trend is completely in line with the post-Diwali pattern. Thamma has found its audience and is drawing crowds in metros and tier-II cities alike. There has been a decline of about 30 per cent in ticket sales from the second day, which is normal as most of the people in the country are now finishing their holidays. However, in places like Gujarat and some regions where Hindi films are popular, the films are still being watched in good numbers.
What are the main features of Thamma?
The flavor of the film lies in its originality, unique storytelling approach and balance between horror and comedy. The fusion of Bhediya’s universe with the newly introduced Betaal is the main attraction. Interestingly, this opens up for a future crossover in the Maddock horror comedy universe.
While it remains to be seen how the film performs in the coming days, Thamma has a refreshing concept. Now, as it enters its first week, all eyes are on how much further this supernatural entertainer can extend its winning streak at the box office. Thamma is expected to touch the Rs 90 crore mark in its 6-day extended weekend. Since there is no big Hindi film releasing till Ajay Devgan’s ‘De De Pyaar De 2’, Thamma will have a clear chance to do well at the box office by mid-November.
