The Taj Story had a good opening and collected Rs. Collected Rs. Earning Rs 5 crore in the first weekend. The film saw a growth of about 16 percent on its first Sunday compared to Saturday and recorded its biggest day ever with earnings of Rs. 2.85 crores. The film started its journey at the box office with Rs 20 crores. 1 crore, thereafter Rs. Earned 1.85 crores on the second day.
So far, the film has established a favorable base considering the cast and cost. It remains to be seen how it fares on weekdays and then in the second weekend, when it will have to face another courtroom drama. Film collections are somewhat irregular, as the second largest series, which is usually a third or a fourth of the largest series, is collecting at the same level. The reason this series and other venues have organized screenings is probably because it is a politically charged film, and at this low level of collection things can change massively.
It will be interesting to see if the Paresh Rawal starrer can turn into another The Kashmir Files or The Kerala Story, as such political films often grow in the long run. It received average to poor reviews from both audiences and critics.
