Thamma and Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat are the latest Diwali releases. Both the films have taken a good opening, truly lighting up the festival for their fans. The vampire-comedy drama starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna in the lead roles has collected Rs. Earned Rs 22.50 crore on its first day and emerged as the 5th biggest opener among the top Diwali openers in the post-pandemic era.
Released on the same day, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, starring Harshvardhan Rane and Sonam Bajwa, overtook Thank God and took a stellar opening of Rs 9 crore. It became the 7th biggest Diwali opener among films released after the pandemic.
The top spot belongs to none other than Salman Khan’s Tiger 3, which earned handsomely. Despite being released on the day of Lakshmi Puja, it grossed Rs 41 crore on the first day. For those unaware, Tiger 3 was one of the rarest films to release on Lakshmi Puja, as it is considered to be the worst release date from a commercial point of view.
The second and third positions go to Singham Again (Rs 40 crore) and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 (Rs 33.25 crore) respectively. Both the films clash on Diwali 2024. Akshay Kumar’s Suryavanshi took the fourth position on the first day with a collection of Rs. 26 crores. The first day is considered more important as it happened when many theaters were not fully operational and the number of audience in theaters was limited due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Both Ram Setu and Thank God clashed during Diwali 2022 and finished at 6th and 8th position respectively.
