Rohit Chandel, known for his performances in Sairab, Kashibai Bajirao Ballal and Pandya Store, has been arrested by the Mumbai Police after a 16-year-old girl accused him of stalking, harassment, repeated phone calls and assault. The 29-year-old actor has been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Code of Justice (BNS) as well as the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act.

According to a report in Times of India, Pant Nagar police station officials arrested Chandel from his residence in Dahisar on Friday, July 10. Following his arrest, he was produced before a special POCSO court, which remanded him to police custody. The investigation into the allegations is currently ongoing.

According to the complaint lodged by the minor, the actor allegedly made repeated calls to her mobile phone using his personal number and several other phone numbers. The complainant said that he faced a lot of trouble due to the continuous calls.

The complaint further alleges that on July 5, Chandel confronted the teenager near his residential building in the eastern suburbs of Mumbai. He is accused of stalking her, starting arguments, verbally abusing her and physically assaulting her by hitting her with his hands.

Confirming the development, a police officer said, “Following the complaint, a case was registered and the accused has been arrested. Further investigation in the matter is underway.”

According to reports, the police have invoked sections 78 and 115(2) of the Indian Justice Code, which deal with offenses related to stalking and voluntarily causing hurt. These charges have been added along with the provisions of the POCSO Act.

Police officials have also said that the accused and the minor knew each other. Officials are continuing their investigation to ascertain all the facts related to the case. The matter is under active investigation, and further action will depend on the findings of the ongoing investigation.
