Karthi starrer Va Vaathiyar recorded good growth on its second day, coinciding with the Pongal holidays. The action comedy directed by Nalan Kumarasamy has collected Rs. Earned Rs. Earned Rs 3 crore on the second day, which almost doubles its opening day figures. The two-day running quantity has now reached Rs 100. 4.75 crore gross at the Indian box office.
Although the film made huge collections on Pongal, it would not be able to change its fortunes at the box office. Va Vaathiyar received mixed reviews among the audience, which has already sealed the box office results. If the film had received great word-of-mouth, things might have been a little different.
Directed by KE Gnanavel Raja under Studio Green, the film needs to project strong trends to garner a respectable total by the end of its theatrical run. Just a week before Thalapathy Vijay’s Jana Nayakan got postponed, the film was suddenly announced to release on Pongal 2026. Perhaps this is the reason why it is struggling to earn a good amount in the initial days.

Va Vaathiyar is an action-comedy that tells the story of DSP Rameswaran, a corrupt police officer, who lives a life contrary to his grandfather’s wishes by adopting the honesty and values of late MGR, as the grandfather believes his grandson to be the reincarnation of MGR. Apart from Karthi, the film also stars Kriti Shetty, Sathyaraj, Rajkiran, Nizhalgal Ravi, Anandraj, Shilpa Manjunath, Karunakaran and many others in important roles.
