Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Prithviraj Sukumaran starrer Varanasi is set to release in theaters in summer 2027. Now, it appears that the synopsis of the film has been revealed on the official handle of Letterboxd.

According to Varanasi’s page on movie-rating platform Letterboxd, the film is set at a time when an asteroid threatens to hit the planet. As the world faces imminent destruction, a savior must travel across space and time.
The page’s synopsis reads, “When an asteroid hits the city of Varanasi, India, what events does it trigger? Is the world about to be doomed? Does it need a savior who must cross continents and timelines to impact the most critical moment in Earth’s history?”

Varanasi is an upcoming epic adventure film starring Mahesh Babu in the lead role. Directed by SS Rajamouli, the film features the superstar as a world-traveling and time-traveling adventurer named Rudra, which was introduced through a concept video featuring extensive CGI sequences.
Before the release of the concept video, the makers also unveiled the first-look poster of Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Prithviraj Sukumaran. Priyanka is set to play the character of Mandakini, her poster shows her in a full action avatar.
Interestingly, the upcoming adventure film marks the actress’ return to Indian cinema after she was last seen in The Sky Is Pink opposite Farhan Akhtar.
Prithviraj, on the other hand, plays the role of Kumbha, a supervillain with a hideous gaze who threatens everything and everyone that comes in his path. After initially unveiling her at the Globetrotter event, the makers recently released her character’s theme song on the streaming platform.
According to reports, Varanasi is expected to release on the big screens on March 25, 2027; However, official confirmation is still awaited. Earlier, we also reported that the much-awaited venture will be filmed sporadically throughout 2026 and will be completed by the end of next year.
While the lead cast of the film has been announced, the team is yet to reveal the names of the supporting actors who will be seen in Varanasi.
