Varanasi, starring Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead roles, is scheduled to release on April 7, 2027. In a recent interview, the film’s director SS Rajamouli confirmed that the shooting of the film will likely be completed by June 2026.
SS Rajamouli confirms that Mahesh Babu’s Varanasi will be completed by June 2026
Speaking to Collider, director SS Rajamouli confirmed that the team is planning to complete the shoot by June 2026. The filmmaker revealed that 50% of the shooting has been completed and said that the most challenging part in the film was filming the Ramayana episode. He also revealed that the film would require extensive VFX work.
Furthermore, SS Rajamouli acknowledged the success of Naatu Naatu and said that he was happy with its reception. However, although he envisions creating a similar effect with the music in Varanasi, the team has deliberately stayed away from including any similarities between the music of RRR and Varanasi.

Varanasi is an upcoming epic adventure drama starring Mahesh Babu in the lead role. The film, directed by SS Rajamouli, features the superstar as a globe-trotting, time-traveling adventurer named Rudra.
Apart from his primary role, Mahesh has confirmed that he will also be seen as Lord Ram in an episode of the film.
Earlier, the makers had unveiled the first-look poster of Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Prithviraj Sukumaran. Priyanka will play the role of a femme fatale named Mandakini, while Prithviraj will play the main antagonist, Kumbha.
While further details about the Salaar actor’s character have been kept under wraps, he will be seen as a vicious supervillain, with the first look showing him in a futuristic wheelchair.
Shooting is still going on, Varanasi is expected to release on April 7, 2027. Earlier, there were speculations that the film would hit the big screen as a two-part venture. However, the director himself has confirmed that the film will be a massive project with only one installment and its runtime will be around three hours.
