Mahakali, directed by Pooja Kolluru, is all set to be one of the next installments of Prashant Varma Cinematic Universe (PVCU) after Teja Sajja starrer Hanuman. The makers have now officially released the first look of the actress in the lead role, revealing that Bhumi Shetty will play the lead role.
Who is Bhumi Shetty?
Bhumi Shetty is an actress who made her debut in Kannada cinema and television. Born in Kundapura, Karnataka, she is the daughter of Bhaskar and Baby Shetty. She speaks fluent Kannada and Tulu and is also trained in Yakshagana, a traditional theater form of Karnataka.
The actress first appeared in the lead role in the TV series Kinnari, where she played the character Mani. Later, in 2018, she played the role of Mridula in the Telugu television series Ninne Pelladatha. The show aired on Zee Telugu.
The following year, Bhumi became a contestant in Bigg Boss Kannada Season 7 hosted by Kiccha Sudeepa. She emerged as a strong contender in the show and became the fourth runner-up that season.
As of 2021, Bhumi appeared in the Telugu show Attarintalo Akka Chelelu. However, her appearance in the series was brief, and her character was later replaced by Chaitra Rai.
The same year, Bhumi switched from television to Kannada cinema and made her film debut with the comedy Ikkat. Written, directed and edited by Haseen Khan and Esham Khan, the film had Nagabhushan of Tagaru Palya fame in the co-lead role. The film is currently available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
Later, the actress made her first appearance in Telugu cinema with Sarathulu Varthithai co-starring Chaitanya Rao Madadi. Although the film received negative reviews, Bhumi’s performance along with the rest of the cast was praised.
Recently, Bhumi Shetty appeared as Gauri in Vijay Deverakonda starrer Kingdom directed by Gautham Tinnanuri. She played an important role as the wife of Shiva (Satyadev).
Now, the actress is all set to headline one of the most awaited mythological superhero projects Mahakali.
