Zayn Malik and Gigi Hadid were once one of the most beloved Tinseltown couples. The singer and the supermodel are believed to have been dating since late 2015. Their ongoing relationship ultimately ended in 2021, with the two reportedly going their separate ways after a dispute involving the model’s mother. Years later, the former One Direction member is opening up about his feelings that he may never have been in love.

During an appearance on the Alex Cooper podcast Call Her Daddy on February 11, the Die for Me singer shared his thoughts on his relationship with Gigi Hadid. Talking about her dating life, she told the host, “To be fair, just to put it on the record, I will always love G, because she’s the reason my baby is on this earth, and I have the utmost respect for her. I will always love her, but I don’t know if I loved her back.”
He reiterated that he had admiration for her, but was not sure if it was ever of the romantic kind: “I love her very much, but no, I don’t think I was in love with her at that time.” The From Dusk Till Dawn (starring Sia) hitmaker explained that his former partner’s behavior towards him led him to believe there was never a romance between them, adding, “Otherwise I would have been a better version of myself.”
Sharing that her understanding of love is ‘always evolving,’ and while she has no disrespect towards her past relationships, she thought at the time it was love, but as she grew up she realized it wasn’t, “Maybe it was lust. Maybe it was this, maybe it was that. I don’t think it was love.”
The two have a 5-year-old daughter named Khai, whom they are now co-parenting. He was previously in a relationship with Little Mix singer Perrie Edwards from early 2012 to August 2015, during which time they got engaged in August 2013. Meanwhile, the model has moved on with Bradley Cooper, with whom she has been engaged since 2023.
