Zootopia 2 on verge of surpassing A Minecraft Movie at worldwide box office, grossing US$955 million

Disney’s latest animated outing, Zootopia 2, is making waves left, right and center at the box office. The film crossed the US$950 million mark at the worldwide box office on its second Tuesday. Currently priced at a whopping US$955 million, Zootopia 2 garnered approximately US$728.2 million from overseas markets, while the US contributed US$227.5 million by the end of its second Tuesday.

Taking into account Wednesday’s figures, the film has already passed the lifetime gross of A Minecraft Movie ($957 million). However, the actual figures are yet to come. As of Tuesday, the film is ranked fourth among the highest-grossing films of 2025.

Based on its current trends, the animated film is expected to enter the US$1 billion club on Friday. Zootopia 2’s ultimate goal will largely depend on how it performs in weeks three and four. The pace of the film is expected to slow down after the release of James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash. As of now, it is set to gross around US$1.50 to 1.70 billion by the end of its theatrical run. It will be interesting to see if the film can surpass Ne Jha 2 and become the only film to cross the US$2 billion mark on the global front.

Of all the global markets, Zootopia 2 is performing best in China. By the end of the second Tuesday in China alone, it has grossed over US$440.2 million, becoming the second highest-grossing Hollywood film behind Avengers: Endgame. The production cost of Zootopia 2 is reported to be US$150 million, which speaks volumes for the profit margin.
