Following the success of their recent collaboration, Made in India: A Titan Story, T-Series Films and Almighty Motion Pictures are expanding their creative partnership for their most ambitious project yet: a premium, multi-season drama series titled The Tatas.
After Made in India: A Titan Story, T-Series announces multi-season series on the Tata family; Details inside!
The prestige program series, envisioned as a premium multi-season drama, is adapted from Girish Kuber’s book, The Tatas: How a Family Built a Business and a Nation, which won the prestigious Gaza Capital Business Book of the Year award. Designed as a sweeping, multi-generational saga, ‘The Tatas’ will chronicle the architecture of a family whose corporate ethos, industrial successes and philanthropic foundations were deeply intertwined with the birth and development of modern India. Rather than confining the narrative to the corporate boardroom, the series is intended to serve as a deeply intimate character study of visionary leaders balancing immense personal faith with the socio-political shifts of a changing nation.
The series will structurally chart four distinct eras of the Tata dynasty, exploring how each generation introduced foundational pillars to the Indian landscape:
Generation I: Founder (Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata)
The series will explore Jamsetji’s fiercely nationalist vision of gifting India three vital assets: independent heavy industry through Tata Steel (setting up Asia’s first integrated steel plant), indigenous luxury hospitality through the iconic Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in 1903, and world-class scientific research, which laid the framework for the Indian Institute of Science (IISc).
Generation II: Consolidators (Sir Dorabji Tata and Sir Ratan Tata) and Lady Meherbai Tata
This era follows the disastrous execution of Tata Steel amid global imperialist skepticism, the creation of Tata Hydro-Electric Power, and the establishment of the seminal Tata Trust, which marked the beginning of organized philanthropy in India.
Generation III: Modernizer (JRD Tata)
Led by more than half a century, this chapter traces the birth of the global technological revolution with JRD Tata pioneering Indian aviation with Tata Airlines (later Air India), setting up Tata Motors (Telco) to build India’s transport infrastructure and the launch of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) in 1968.
Generation IV: The Globalists (Ratan Naval Tata)
The leader who took the Indian empire to the global stage. This final arc will chart the group’s aggressive modernization, tracking consumer successes like Titan rewriting the Indian lifestyle landscape as well as high-stakes international acquisitions.
Screenwriter Karan Vyas, who received widespread praise for presenting the emotional and historical significance of the Titan narrative, has been chosen to adapt Kubera’s book for the screen. The project takes Vyas from a single-brand focus to a vast historical canvas spanning a century of Indian history.
