Ashutosh Gowarikar to lead the 57th International Film Festival of India

In a significant development for Indian cinema, acclaimed filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker has been appointed as the Festival Director for the 57th edition of the International Film Festival of India. The appointment comes as part of an initiative by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, which will further strengthen Gowariker’s long-standing association with the prestigious festival.

Gowariker’s relationship with IFFI goes back decades, making this appointment a natural progression of his continued involvement. From being a participant in the early years to playing leading roles in recent editions, including serving as Jury President for International Cinema in 2024, his journey reflects a deep connection with the festival and its evolution.

Expressing his gratitude, Gowariker said, “It is a matter of great pride and pleasure for me to serve as the Festival Director of the prestigious International Film Festival of India, Goa. I have had the privilege of witnessing the evolution of this Festival – from participating in it in 1984 to continuing our association till 2024.”

He further added, “It is a great honor, as well as a new sense of responsibility, to carry forward the legacy that has been created, nurtured and expanded over the decades since 1952 by countless Utsav teams. I look forward to working closely with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the Government of Goa.”

Established in 1952, IFFI remains one of Asia’s foremost film festivals, serving as an important platform for global cinema while promoting cultural exchange through storytelling. Under the leadership of Gowariker, the 57th edition is expected to carry forward this legacy and further enhance India’s presence on the global cinematic stage.
