The film, produced by Amit Jani and reportedly inspired by publicly available information related to the black buck case involving Salman Khan, has been making headlines ever since the unveiling of its first look. Black buck controversy deepens: Sonu Mishra talks about Salman Khan’s exit from the film based on the black buck case; Says, ‘I did not want to be a part of such a film’
Amidst the legal controversy started by Salman Khan and his team, many cast members in the film have spoken about the negative storyline and some have even claimed to have been misled by the producer. The latest person to talk about this was lead actor Sonu Mishra, who publicly spoke about his departure. While addressing the media during a recent press conference, Mishra revealed that he was initially approached for the film but was never handed the official deal for the film and hence, he decided to walk away from it after concerns developed about Salman Khan’s portrayal in the project.
Talking about his decision, Sonu Mishra said, “I was very excited because I had to play the role of superstar Salman Khan. I had even started shooting for the film. But being an actor, I don’t want to be a part of such a film when the intention is negative. There is no doubt that he has a point of view. But you are showing superstar Salman Khan in a negative light and showing a one-sided story.”
The actor further claimed that he had sought clarity about the script and contract terms before deciding to walk out of the project. “I left because I didn’t sign the agreement. We shot for two days, and I asked them for the agreement and the script because they were making a one-sided narrative story against a superstar. So, they understood that I was not going to fall into their trap. I asked for the agreement to know what all the clauses were in it. After a long time, they showed me things, and it turned out that I had to say negative things against the star in the media. So, all these things were against my ethics”, he said. Said further.
The development comes at a time when Salman Khan and his legal team have approached the Delhi High Court seeking a ban on the film and its promotional material. The petition reportedly argues that the project violates the actor’s personality rights and is based on an ongoing legal case that is pending. Delhi High Court has taken cognizance of this matter and has issued a notice to the producers of the film. The next hearing in the case is to be held on June 19.
With increasing legal scrutiny and key members distancing themselves from the project, its future Black Deer: Battle of the Legacy remains uncertain.
