Culpa Nuestra Exclusive: Mercedes Ron credits Gabriel Guevara, Nicole Wallace for ‘amazing work’, talks spin-off plans

Culpables first appeared on the Internet a decade ago. At the time, Mercedes Ron was a 22-year-old who loved writing intense love stories on the online writing platform Wattpad, and her pen was mightier than the sword. His first story, in Spanish, came out in 2015 as Culpa Mia, which earned him a Wattie’s Awards badge the following year. His writing journey continued when he wrote Culpa Tua, followed by Culpa Nuestra, which was released to the public. A total phenomenon online and in stores, the three-part book series has now been read by a total of 3 million people and downloaded more than 30 times.

The popular story was first adapted into a film in 2023, with the second installment releasing in late 2024. We are nearing the end of the movie versions of the series, with the third and final film, Culpa Nuestra, scheduled to be released on October 16, 2025. Another English adaptation, titled My Fault: London, was released on February 13, 2025. Prime Video has brought all four. The films garner millions of fans globally, making it a successful release every time.

The story of Culpables centers on the two leads, Noah and Nick, played by Nicole Wallace and Gabriel Guevara, who become step-siblings after their mother marries their billionaire father. An unexpected and “forbidden” love story blossoms between them. The first book challenges his naive feelings, while the second focuses on his isolation due to his parents’ involvement. Finally, the third story brings them back together at a mutual friends’ wedding, where they must navigate through their complicated pasts and decide if they want to be together again.

Ahead of the finale coming with the release of Culpa Nuestra, we spoke to renowned author Mercedes Ron over an online video call as she prepared for another round of congratulations.

As the mastermind behind this series, what aspects of this trilogy are you really proud of?

Mercedes Ron: I’m really proud of the tension between the characters that’s there in the third book. And if you watch the movie or if you read the book, you can see the tension. It’s really hard to keep it up for a long time. It was very challenging for me, but I really wanted people to read it and say, ‘Oh my God, I can feel the tension.’ And they love each other, but they also hate each other. I really like the enemies-to-lovers saying. So, it was difficult to keep him in the third book. And I’m very proud of how it ended. I think it’s very interesting. And I am sure you will feel the same when you watch the film.

Do you have any plans to do a spinoff or something with Noah and Nick’s baby? Is this something you would be willing to write about?

Mercedes Ron: Not now. I know fans would love a spinoff or another book, but I think the story is too long. There are three books, three long books. So, I guess that’s it for now. But I don’t know what may happen in the future. I wouldn’t do it, I would never say it, but not now. This is not in my plans.

Are you feeling any kind of pressure as the trilogy ends with this film?

Mercedes Ron: I felt pressure in the beginning. But when I saw the film I was very happy. This is my favorite movie. And I really think the fans will feel the same way. I am very happy. I mean, I’m happy but also sad, because I don’t want it to end. But I know we have a really good movie. So it will be amazing to see your reactions and the fans being happy, I’m sure they were happy, they’re going to be happy.

What part of this third installment makes it better or different than the other two for you?

Mercedes Ron: I think the tension that we’ll see in this movie is amazing. And it’s fun to watch, too. I mean, it’s sexy and fun. And the locations are amazing. And Nicole and Gabriel are really beautiful in this movie. So I think everything is like, I don’t know, better than the other two, but in a good way. I don’t know, I really like the movie.

What would you think of this entire trilogy? 10 years from now, how would you like it to be remembered?

Mercedes Ron: I think I’ll remember it as a very fun, coming-of-age movie full of action, love, and tension. I think it was a movie that we needed. I felt like we hadn’t had these stories for a long time. And I think that’s why people really like Culpables because we’ve been waiting for this movie to come out. Not just my story, any such story. And it was done really well. And that’s why people really like it. I really love the movie.

Would you like to cast any actor from this film in any of your other projects?

Mercedes Ron: Would I like to involve artists in other (projects)? I don’t know, I would love for people to remember (them) Nicole as Noah, Gabriel as Nick. I don’t think it is a good idea to cast him in any other film. Because otherwise, I don’t know, like the characters would get lost. I guess I’d like to remember them as they are now. The characters they have right now.
