According to a report in Variety India, an industry source indicated that the casting process has become the major hurdle. “Auditions are an essential part of the casting process,” the source was quoted as saying White lotus. Producers were very keen to audition actors before signing them. Deepika was not keen on giving auditions and that was the reason why she had to give up the White Lotus opportunity.

This is not the first time that Padukone’s name has been linked to the series. She was also reportedly approached earlier during the development of Season 3, but the collaboration could not take place at that time due to her pregnancy.

Had the casting worked out, the project would have marked another international outing for the actor after his Hollywood debut In xXx: return of xander cageWhere she starred alongside Vin Diesel. While the film introduced her to a global audience, Deepika has since focused primarily on Indian productions.

Neither Padukone nor the series’ producers have publicly commented on the alleged development. As of now, there is no confirmation as to whether discussions might resume in the future or whether the role has already been offered to another actor.

Padukone remains active in Hindi cinema, with several projects in development, while her potential return to international television or film remains a topic of industry interest.
