The Delhi High Court on Friday postponed hearing on a plea seeking a stay on the filming, promotion and release of actor Salman Khan’s proposed film. Blackbuck: Battle of the Legacy. The matter was adjourned after the lawyer representing the filmmakers sought additional time to file response to the application. The case was heard by a vacation bench of Justice Madhu Jain, which has now listed the matter before a roster bench on July 1.

Salman Khan has approached the court alleging that the proposed film and its promotional material is based on incidents related to him and unlawfully exploits his personality and publicity rights.
Salman Khan asked for interim relief
During the hearing, senior lawyer Sandeep Sethi, appearing for Salman Khan, urged the court to grant interim protection against the release and promotional activities of the film. Sethi said before the court, “He is producing a film on my life and tearing down the notice. He has no right to make a film on my life. I am seeking interim injunction. The teaser has already been released.”
According to Khan’s legal team, the actor’s consent was never obtained for the project despite alleged references to events from his life and legal history. However, the filmmakers’ counsel requested time to place their reply on record, saying that they had recently received a copy of the application.
Controversy over alleged use of actor’s identity
Salman Khan’s petition focuses on those claims Blackbuck: Battle of the Legacy Despite not explicitly naming the actor, it takes inspiration from the 1998 black buck poaching case.
According to the application, the promotional material released for the film contains visuals and contextual references that make Khan recognizable to the public. The petition cites a poster released in May 2026 that allegedly shows a character resembling the actor and wearing a bracelet similar to his famous blue bracelet.
The actor has also objected to promotional material that reportedly depicts the character carrying firearms, arguing that such depictions create a misleading impression, especially since he was acquitted in Arms Act-related proceedings.
Concern about pending legal matters
The application further argues that certain parts of the proposed film appear to be based on issues that are still pending before the High Courts. According to Khan’s legal team, the dissemination of such material could potentially impact public perception and impact ongoing legal proceedings.
During the hearing, Sethi also argued that the respondents should not be allowed to continue using Salman Khan’s identity and public image for promotional purposes without authorization.
Filmmakers oppose interim injunction
The respondents opposed granting any interim relief.
During the proceedings, the lawyer representing the filmmakers informed the court that they were allegedly receiving death threats and had filed an FIR in connection with the matter.
After hearing the arguments from both sides, the court said that the counsel for the producer and the director had recently received the complete arguments. It directed Salman Khan’s legal team to provide the complete set of documents to the respondents during the day.
The defendants in the case include producer Amit Jani, Jani Firefox Films, director Bharat Srinet, Akshay Pandey and other individuals associated with the project.
