In a post shared on his Instagram Stories, Messi strongly denied being a part of the project. “Ok. To put the rumors to rest. I was never a part of Nitish Tiwari’s Ramayan,” he wrote, reflecting on the coverage that reported he had lost a role in the film. “Many media portals reporting about my alleged ‘replacement’ should have conducted the requisite background check. Disappointing. Anyway, all the best to everyone who is a part of the film. Love.”
The actor later removed the post from his Instagram Story, although no explanation was given for its removal.
The controversy stemmed from a report by Variety India which mentioned that Raghav Juyal was cast as Meghnad (also known as Indrajit) – the eldest son of Ravana and a prominent warrior. Ramayana Narrative – for Ramayana: Part 2. The same report indicated that the role was once attached to Massey before the filmmakers chose different casting options. The publication quoted a source as saying, “The role was initially supposed to be played by Vikrant Massey, but apparently things didn’t work out. Raghav was later approached and he immediately came on board.”
