Duty trailer: Saif Ali Khan battles duty, corruption and family crisis in this Netflix crime drama
The trailer introduces audiences to a tense and morally complex world where questions of justice, power and personal responsibility take center stage. Saif Ali Khan plays a police officer named Pawan, who comes under intense scrutiny after he fails to protect a journalist who is shot under his watch. As pressure from senior officials increases and the investigation deepens, Pawan is drawn into a dangerous assignment that exposes layers of influence, corruption and deception.
Additionally, her personal life begins to fluctuate as threats against her family begin to emerge due to a dispute involving her brother. Torn between professional obligations and personal loyalties, the character finds himself faced with difficult choices, where every decision has a price to pay. Apart from Saif Ali Khan, Rasika Duggal, Sanjay Mishra, Zakir Hussain, Manish Chaudhary and Saurabh Dwivedi also play important roles in the film.
Talking about the film, Saif Ali Khan said, “Pawan is a man who is constantly in conversation with himself, about what he believes is right, what is expected of him and what he must protect. What attracted me to it was Kartavya Doesn’t this give an easy answer; This puts you in an uncomfortable position and forces you to ask what you will do when every choice comes at a personal cost. Working with Pulkit and the entire cast made this journey even more fascinating and thrilling. It has been especially exciting to collaborate with Red Chillies Entertainment on a project of this scale for the first time Kartavya. We are excited for audiences around the world to connect with this story on Netflix.”
Director Pulkit also spoke about the thematic core of the film and shared, “Kartavya It’s a story that lives in ambiguity, where every choice has a price and certainty is always just out of reach. We set out to create a grounded, emotionally charged narrative that goes beyond the surface of crime to explore the human struggle at its core. The cast all bring great depth to their characters, and with Saif bringing remarkable composure to an extremely conflicted role, the film invites the audience to think about what justice really means when personal stakes are involved. My second association with Red Chillies Entertainment and Netflix has been incredibly gratifying, and we are excited to bring this story to audiences around the world.
With its contemplative tone, emotionally charged conflicts and layered storytelling, the film promises to explore the blurred lines between duty and morality when it premieres on Netflix on May 15.
