Hridayapoorvam, with Mohanlal in the main role, struck the big screens on August 28, 2025. The director of Sathyan Anthikad presents Malavika Mohanan and Sangeeth Prathap as co-chefs.

If you plan to look at the humorous family drama in theaters, here is IHNS’s criticism for you.

The intrigue

Hridayapoorvam tells the story of Sandeep Balakrishnan, an average man who recently suffered a heart transplant. When invited to the daughter of its donor, Haritha’s engagement ceremony, Sandeep goes to Pune.

However, certain circumstances lead him to prolong his stay, during which he formed an emotional link with Haritha and his family. How Sandeep takes care of the events and the way they transform it as a person, recognizing his own feelings, forms the whole film.

Good

Hridayapoorvam is exactly what you would expect from a Mohanlal star, directed by Sathyan Anthikad. The duo, which delivered several emblematic jewels in Malayalam cinema, continued their sequence with another drama of well-being comedy.

The characterization of Sandeep Balakrishnan, played by Mohanlal, offers a nuanced representation that resonates with a lot. The character’s reflection on life, death and loneliness is emotionally convincing.

While the initial half is struggling a little to take off, once it reaches a certain point, there was no boring moment. The film has a comforting effect, especially with the Bromance of Mohanlal with Jerry de Sangeeth Prathap, who worked his magic.

Malavika Mohanan and Sangita Nair play their games, which means that Hridayapoorvam turns out to be a pleasant story that reminds viewers that cinema is not only a question of action and violence.

Coming to technical aspects, Sathyan Anthikad reminds everyone why he is considered the goat of well-being dramas. Humor stays simply with the mind, which makes the experience enriching.

People raised on his films from the 1980s in the 2010s could attend Hridayapoorvam clearly follow these steps. However, at the same time, he has also managed to evolve over the years.

With elements recalling Varane Avashyamund and Pachuvum Athbutha Vilakkum, it seems that the sons of Anthikad – Akhil and Anoo have had a notable influence on the style of the veteran filmmaker.

Justin Prabhakaran carefully manages musical songs, and cinematography remains consistent with the tone of the film. Mohanlal’s costumes also deserve praise for thoughtful style.

The bad

Hridayapoorvam has some gaps, mainly of his opening act. The initial scenes take their time to take the momentum, and humor in these parties have trouble landing effectively.

Rather than feeling a snapshot, some of the lining and scenes from comedy feel saturated. However, this is limited to the first part of the film and improves considerably.

With hindsight, a tighter montage could have made the experience global even more engaging.

Performance

Mohanlal steals the show with his representation of Sandeep Balakrishnan. After above all attending action roles, it is refreshing to see him return to a softer and more endearing character.

Innocence in his eyes while delivering lines recalls his classic comedy dramas. While Mohanlal does what he is known to do, it is Sangeeth Prathap who ends up being the thief of the show.

The actor of the premalu renown effectively balances humor, playing a perfect acolyte for Mohanlal. Meanwhile, Malavika Mohanan shows more promises as a head woman, Sangita Nair sharing beautiful chemistry alongside the Lalettan.
