“This was not an impulsive decision. It was about timing, alignment and peace of mind,” Subin said, adding that the decision was taken swiftly as the family’s visa renewal coincided with the renewal of the house rent in the UAE.
“That pause forced us as a family and especially as partners to look at everything calmly, pragmatically and honestly,” he explained.
Subin said the proximity of an international school in Kerala also influenced the family’s decision to change base. While school in Kerala is only 10 minutes away, her child had to leave home at 6 a.m. and travel about 90 minutes every day in Dubai.
He highlighted that living in his home in Kerala took away the pressure of rent in Dubai. Living within the community also revived his old social contacts, which he did not have in Dubai.
“Today, we are in a no-debt, no-EMI situation. That mental freedom means more than we realized at that time,” he said.
Subin captioned the video, “What works for us may not work for you at all; however, you can use the framework for anything you want to work on.”
He said, “If you are a single parent, talk to your children. If you are a young couple with no children, talk to your spouse. If you are a family with husband, wife and children, talk to everyone in your family. In every situation, communication and open joint discussion is important.”
A third commented: “The shocking or best part, as one can take, is that being an Indian woman, you are happy with your decision. Generally, once Indian women move out of India to any country, even if they don’t like it or don’t want to go back. All the best and happy times to you guys!”
A fourth said: “On the last line I couldn’t agree with you more #sometimes the decision isn’t about where life looks better, but where it feels better.”
