JioHotstar has announced its upcoming original series Space Jane: Chandrayaan, a dramatic retelling inspired by the real events surrounding India’s Chandrayaan-2 mission. Produced by The Viral Fever (TVF) and directed by Ananth Singh, the five-episode series will premiere on January 23, 2026, marking JioHotstar’s first collaboration with TVF.

JioHotstar announces TVF series Space Jane: Chandrayaan, starring Nakuul Mehta and Shriya Saran
The series brings together an ensemble cast led by Nakuul Mehta, starring Prakash Belawadi, Shriya Saran, Danish Sait and Gopal Dutt in lead roles. Rather than focusing solely on the technical aspects of the mission, Space Jane: Chandrayaan traces the emotional and human journey behind one of India’s most significant scientific moments.
Chandrayaan-2, launched amid national pride, came within 2.1 kilometers of the lunar surface before losing contact – a moment that left the country reeling with disappointment. The series depicts that setback not as an endpoint, but as the beginning of a new resolution.
The teaser offers a restrained glimpse of this turning point, with scientists gathered in a tense control room as they wait for signals that never come. Subsequently, the makers suggest that this is not defeat, but a collective decision to persevere. The show bills itself as a character-driven drama that respects the people behind the show as much as the mission itself.
Speaking about the vision behind the series, director Ananth Singh said, “India’s moon mission is a masterclass in resilience and ambition. We already knew that the soul of the story resided as much in the people who carried their weight on the mission. This is a story of pride, unwavering faith, ambition and the ability to rise above failure. Together with JioHotstar and TVF, we are incredibly proud to present this series. We hope that “It will allow audiences to experience not only a historic mission but also the human courage that drove it.”
Lead actor Nakuul Mehta echoed similar sentiments, highlighting the emotional depth of the story. He said, “What impressed me most was the honesty of the script. It doesn’t just celebrate the ultimate victory; it honors the grit required to bounce back after failure. It was a challenge to flesh out that emotional journey, which stayed with me long after the cameras were off. We all worked with a deep respect for the fact that this is a story about an entire nation. I’m extremely proud of the show, and I’m so proud to see that quiet resilience shown by the audience on JioHotstar.” Can’t wait for the one who shaped it.” “A defining moment in the history of India.”
Space Jane: Chandrayaan positions itself as a history of perseverance – focusing on ordinary scientists who faced failure, absorbed its weight, and chose to start again through science, humility, and faith. The series will stream exclusively on JioHotstar from January 23, 2026.
