Kantara: Chapter 1 finishes its opening weekend at the top, with estimates putting the Sunday figures in India on Rs. 70 crosses. Depending on the place where the reals settled tomorrow, Sunday could end up reviewing its opening day, an extreme rarity for an version of Tentpole in the south of India, even more when the opening day was a vacation and included overviews.
The weekend extended in India is north of Rs. 250 crores, with around Rs. 256 crosses in four days. Another Rs. 54 Core should come from abroad, after having released USD 4.80 million (Rs. 42.50 crosses) during its first three days. The global opening weekend is estimated at Rs. 310 Core.
It is South India where the film played the best, with a record opening in the original state of Karnataka. Kantara will miss the KGF 2 weekend record by a thin margin of the hair, but it comes out with a much stronger trend, Saturday and Sunday being almost 10% higher. Other southern states have also presented a strong show, with impressive openings, then completed it with an even better trend.
The opening of the Hindi version was a disappointment, but it resumed well on weekends. The film made solid gains on Saturday, and now Sunday should be almost 25% higher than on the first day of the holidays, at around Rs. 22 net. The strong trend augurs well for its possible legs, although on weekdays will determine how far it can go.
Upon entering the weekend, there was a feeling of overwhelming for the film with the Hindi version which is not triggered, but it ends the weekend on a positive and RS. 300 richer crore. The film has a platform for it to emerge as one of the greatest coarse on all time for Indian cinema. It is certain to win more than Rs. 500 crores at the national level and RS. 600 crores worldwide.
