The order reportedly comes amid a controversy over the will, dated March 2025, which states that Sanjay Kapoor’s personal property will be left entirely to Priya Kapoor. However, the children of his ex-wife Karisma Kapoor have challenged the authenticity of this document, raising concerns about its validity and alleging that it may be fabricated.

Taking note of these concerns, the court said that questions related to the will would require detailed investigation during the trial proceedings. Until then, it emphasized the need to protect assets from changes or decreases in value. The judge said there were sufficient grounds at this stage to justify temporary protection of the property.

Under the interim directions, Priya Kapoor has been barred from selling, transferring or changing the shareholding pattern of Sanjay Kapoor’s Indian companies. They have also been banned from withdrawing money from certain bank accounts, except for expenses related to children, as per the earlier arrangement. Additionally, access to certain financial holdings, including offshore accounts and cryptocurrency assets, has been blocked for the time being.

However, the court clarified that assets located outside India are not covered under this interim order.

The controversy is related to the demise of Sanjay Kapoor in the United Kingdom in June 2025. Following his demise, Karisma Kapoor’s children, represented by their mother, approached the court claiming that they were wrongly excluded from their father’s property. He has sought recognition as the rightful heir and requested a fair share in the property.

On the other hand, Priya Kapoor has denied all the allegations and said that the will in question is genuine. His legal team has argued that minor discrepancies in the document do not invalidate it and also claimed that the children have already received benefits from family trusts.

Karisma Kapoor and Sanjay Kapoor were married for over a decade before their separation in 2016. they have two children. As the case is now moving towards a detailed hearing, the court’s interim order ensures that the assets will remain intact until the final decision comes.
