There were rumors that the film would be renewed for two sequels, a live-action and a musical adaptation. However, the producers of the films have finally quashed a major speculation, ruling out the possibility of seeing the Huntrix members and Saja Boys in human forms.
KPop Demon Hunters Creators Shut Down Live-Action Questions
After much discussion about Rumi, Mira and Zoey being the real-life versions of Vejinu, Mystery, Abby, Romance and Baby, the mastermind behind the animated characters has finally shared an update. “There are a lot of elements of tone and comedy that are very suitable for animation,” Maggie Kang told BBC News. “It’s really hard to imagine these characters in a live-action world. It would feel too grounded. So, it totally wouldn’t work for me.”
The film’s co-producer Chris Appelhans also shared his thoughts on the debate. “One of the great things about animation is that you create these combinations of impossibly great characteristics. Rumi can be a goofy comedian and then sing and do a spinning back-kick a second and then be free falling into the sky.” He said that the joy of the film comes from its exaggerated gestures, and doing so with its artwork would ‘slow it down’.
These statements have left many hearts broken in the K-pop world, but the K-drama actor’s imagination as to which actor would be best suited for the roles of these characters is still going strong. Meanwhile, Kpop Demon Hunters has recently confirmed talks about the production of the second part of the film. Potential backstories of the characters are likely to be explored in a potential sequel.
