Madras High Court dismisses Tamannaah Bhatia’s plea against Power Soaps Ltd
A division bench of Justices P Velmurugan and K Govindarajan Thilakawadi upheld the earlier decision of the single judge and concluded that the actress failed to prove that her photographs were used beyond the agreed contract period.
The case stems from a 2008 advertising deal under which Bhatia allowed the company to use his images to promote its soap products for a year until October 2009. According to the actor, even after the agreement ended, Power Soaps continued to use his photographs on product packaging, advertisements, and online platforms during 2010–2011. She argued that this unauthorized use affected her professional opportunities, especially as she was in discussions with rival brands at the time.
Seeking relief, Bhatia approached the court for Rs. Also requested damages of Rs 1 crore and a permanent injunction to stop the company from using her photographs further.
However, the single judge had previously rejected her claims, noting that the evidence presented – which included product wrappers, a purchase document and online listings – lacked credibility and failed to establish a clear link between the company and the alleged abuse.
Finding no merit in the appeal, the Division Bench confirmed these findings, reiterating that the claims were not supported by credible evidence and upheld the earlier dismissal.
