Script Writing Guilds worldwide are gathering for the first time in history – under one roof in India. In a historic program for the film industry, India’s screenwriting authors’ Association (SWA) will host the annual general meeting (AGM) of International Affairs of Writers Guilds (IAWG) in the country. Mega Gala will bring leaders and scones of the guild of writers globally to Mumbai from 6-8 October.

The SWA is getting ready to welcome representatives of the US Writers Guild (West End East), Great Britain’s Writers Guild, Canada’s Writers Guild, as well as Representatives of representatives of Representatives from European Guild, Australia, NZ, Latin America, Africa and Asia, who will hold a 3 -day knowledgeable and subjective and subscribing.
Mr. Zaman Habib, Mr. Anjum Rajbali and Mr. Mitesh Shah will represent the SWA in this AGM. “This is not just an event – it’s a moment of international solidarity,” said Anjum Rajbali, senior writer and member of SWA Committee. “Authors face common conflicts everywhere: fair salary, residual/royalty, creative rights, and protection from exploitation. But often, multinational studio and streaming platforms consider writers in the global south as differently from their western counterparts. It is modern cultural colonialism.”
This is a “to discuss the global platform and protect the rights of the authors,” Zaman Habib, SWA General Secretary, Zaman Habib said, “From standard contracts to collective bargains, IAWG works to ensure that screenwriers are recognized as the first creators in the film production process.
The AGM will focus on developing strategies to ensure fair treatment on boundaries and to ensure justified contracts, shares the best practices from recent guild talks (such as 2023 WGA Strike) and will unite against discriminatory practices by producers, studios and streaming platforms.
In the last decade, SWA continued to work on its commitment to ensure that Indian writers are given dignity, respect and compensation, which they are correctly qualified. One such type of phenomenon stands as a leading trade union for all the screenwriters of SWA, and emphasizes India’s growing role as a creative powerhouse in the global entertainment industry.
Writers Glands (IAWG) international affiliation is a global alliance of guild and unions representing screenwriters in film, television, radio and digital media. To protect and move forward of writers’ rights worldwide, IAWG Fair Contracts, Fair Pay and Fair Credit unite the guilds in continents.
The screenplay Writers Association (SWA), the biggest registered trade union for the script writers and lyricists, represents thousands of its members in more than 12 languages in film, television and digital platforms. Through advocacy, interaction and legal support, SWA works to protect the rights and interests of Indian storytellers.
