Veteran actress Meenakshi Sheshadri has revealed that she has officially returned to India after spending almost three decades abroad. The actress, who walked away from Bollywood at the peak of her career in the late 1990s, shared that she is now looking forward to resuming her journey in the entertainment industry with new opportunities in films and OTT platforms.

Meenakshi’s decision to leave the film industry after marriage has remained one of the most talked about exits of Bollywood in the last few years. In 1995, the actor married investment banker Harish Mysore and moved to the United States and gradually distanced herself from the Hindi film industry despite being one of the leading stars of that time.
On May 25, 2026, Meenakshi shared an emotional two-minute video on social media, where she talked about returning to Mumbai and trying to find meaningful acting opportunities once again.
In the video, she said, “A hearty hello to my growing family of Instagram followers. Today I want to sincerely thank you all for your love, encouragement and constant support. After 30 long years, I am back to my birthplace, Mumbai, India and have once again stepped into the entertainment industry with hope, passion and positivity.”
The actor further revealed that he is open to all types of roles, as long as they allow him to play meaningful characters. She said, “I am really looking forward to meaningful opportunities, be it a lead role, a supporting character or a small show. And it doesn’t matter as long as it is an impressive performance. It could be films or OTT shows.” Talking about the kind of work she wants to do, Meenakshi said, “I want to explore roles that challenge me as an artiste and help me discover new dimensions of my art.”
The actor also candidly admitted that he received many offers after his comeback, but many projects failed to excite him creatively. “You know, I had a lot of offers, but some weren’t that exciting and some didn’t pan out,” he revealed.
Meenakshi further revealed that she is currently managing her comeback independently, without the support of any talent agency. She added, “But I am managing this journey on my own without any agency. And your support during this phase means everything to me.”
Although she has now relocated to India, the actor clarified that she continues to spend time with her family in the United States. Her post caption also revealed that she was currently in Boston celebrating her son’s graduation from Harvard University.
The caption reads, “Dear friends, this is a message to all of you from Boston USA. I am here to celebrate my son’s graduation from Harvard University and spend a fun summer with my family. I would like to share that after relocating to India I am working towards more opportunities in the entertainment industry. Although there were offers, they were either not exciting enough or simply did not work out.”
Meenakshi ended her message by saying that she is not trying to prove anything to anyone and just wants to do the work that makes her truly happy. His comeback has already created a lot of excitement among fans, many of whom are hopeful to see the veteran actor back on screen after such a long gap.
