Odum Kuthira Chaadum Kuthira (Okck) is a comedy film in Malayalam which was released in theaters on August 29, 2025. Directed by Althaf Salim, this absurd black humor film is currently in difficulty on Netflix.
If you haven’t watched the film and plan to catch it this weekend, here is IHNS’s criticism.
The intrigue
Odum Kuthira Chaadum Kuthira follows the story of Aby and Nidhi, a committed couple who should get married soon. Just a day before their wedding, Nidhi remembers the fanciful dream she has spent in the past few days, where Aby arrives at their wedding on a white horse, in the majestic air.
Wanting to realize his dream, Aby organizes a white horse and arrives at the wedding, riding it. However, the horse is surprised by the flashes of the camera during the event, which drops Aby and hit his head, leaving him in a coma.
What will happen to Aby and how his relationship with Nidhi evolves after the accident, forms the central story of the film.
Good
Odum Kuthira Chaadum Kuthira is clearly a film that is not based on logic or realism in its narration. The story and the characters are made in an eccentric way which supports the fun and eccentric tone of the film.
Where logic fails, humor takes over, causing chaotic misadventures. Immersed in the themes of love and despair, the film adopts a dark approach to depression and its surrounding difficulties.
The eccentricity and the tone of the film make it a series of misadventures, one of the funniest companies in recent Malayalam cinema. The script, written by Althaf Salim, is a hilarious experience that successfully mixes dark humor and absurdity.
The trope of the unlucky hero and “cute girl” is managed adequately by Fahadh and Kalyani, but it is LAL who steals the show. The director who has become an actor is impressive as Aby’s father, offering an effortless combination of eccentricity and comic brightness with his quirks. The film also has an interesting and clear dialogue, even being aware of yourself at points.
Coming to the technical aspects, Justin Varghese makes an impressive list of musical tracks, while Nidhin Raj Arol managed edition to a large extent.
The bad
Odum Kuthira Chaadum Kuthira is a daring attempt to redefine the narration. The absurd tone and the unconventional approach to the film can alienate certain viewers, in particular those unknown or little appreciated by the surrealist comedy.
Those who cannot grasp the Limerick style writing and character tone can find the experienced or disappointing experience.
The film also suffers from inconsistency in rhythm. Okck sometimes has trouble keeping a spectator committed when his momentum takes a hit here and there. This is obvious where some jokes seem to miss the brand due to bad timing.
Performance
Fahadh Faasil shines with an avatar quite different from what he is used to. As a central figure in history, the FAFA establishes a balance between its charm and its emotional vulnerability.
While Kalyani is limited to the role of being a pretty girl, of which she is often given, Revathi Pillai holds hard as a character of solid depth.
While the LAL becomes the life of the whole film with its spirit and its comic timing, Vinay Forrt and Suresh Krishna also deserve special applause for their efforts.
The verdict
Odum Kuthira Chaadum Kuthira is adapted to a niche audience that appreciates experimentation in the genre of comedy. The absurd nature can feel uncomfortable or updating for some, but for those who love dark and offbeat comedy, it is an entertaining and memorable watch.
