Netflix has unveiled the trailer of its upcoming military drama Operation Safed Sagar, based on one of the most important but lesser known chapters of the 1999 Kargil war. Inspired by real events, the series chronicles the vital role of the Indian Air Force during the historic high-altitude air campaign Operation Safed Sagar, which played a vital role in supporting the Indian Army during the conflict.

Set against the backdrop of the Kargil War, the series narrates how the Indian Air Force responded after Pakistan Army captured strategic positions in the challenging mountainous terrain. Recognized as the world’s highest-profile airborne operation, Operation Safed Sagar became a defining moment in India’s military history, as the country’s youngest fighter squadron prepared to face one of the country’s toughest wartime challenges.
The story centers on the Golden Arrows squadron, led by Wing Commander BS Dhanoa ‘Tony’, played by Jimmy Shergill, along with Squadron Leader Ajay Ahuja, played by Siddharth. As the conflict in the mountains of Kargil intensifies, the squadron’s young fighter pilots are tasked with carrying out dangerous missions in extraordinary circumstances. The series also sheds light on the lives of families waiting to return home, highlighting the emotional resilience and unwavering support of their loved ones behind the men in uniform.
To ensure authenticity, the makers conducted extensive research and consulted Indian Air Force veterans and families associated with the operation. The series was filmed at operational Indian Air Force bases with access to real aircraft and military infrastructure, thereby recreating the scale and intensity of missions in real high-altitude environments.

The series also received guidance from Air Chief Marshal (Retd) BS Dhanoa, who played a key role in the real-life operation. Speaking about the project he said, “India is now ready to hear this story. In fact, it is long overdue. Operation Safed Sagar needs to be told, and I am glad that it is finally being brought to life. When I was the Air Force chief, I had only two wishes. First, the story of the Indian Air Force’s role in the Kargil war should be told. It is one of the most important chapters of our history. Second, any film or series on this subject should be made available to young boys and To inspire girls to join the Indian Air Force. Even today, after retirement, I keep asking veterans to visit schools and share their experiences. I will consider my objective achieved.
Directed by Oni Sen, the series is created by Abhijeet Singh Parmar and Kushal Srivastava and produced by Sanjay Routray and Sarita Patil of Matchbox Shots LLP along with Mehboob Pal Singh Brar of Feel Good Films. The cast includes Siddharth, Jimmy Shergill, Abhay Verma, Dia Mirza, Prajakta Koli, Adil Hussain, Mihir Ahuja, Taruk Raina, Arnav Bhasin and Amrita Bagchi.
