Actress Rhea Chakraborty has received significant legal relief after a special court in Mumbai ordered the defreezing of the bank accounts of her, her brother Showik Chakraborty and their mother Sandhya Chakraborty. These accounts were frozen by the Narcotics Control Bureau in 2020 during its investigation related to the death of Sushant Singh Rajput.

According to reports, the special NDPS court found that the Narcotics Control Bureau did not follow the mandatory procedure under Section 68F of the NDPS Act within the stipulated time limit. As a result, the court held that the freezing orders could not be sustained and allowed the release of the remaining accounts. It was also noted that there was no compliance with sub-section (2) of Section 68F and no order required under the provision was passed, due to which the application was allowed.

The accounts were originally frozen when the Narcotics Control Bureau began a drugs-related investigation in 2020 following the death of Sushant Singh Rajput, a case that garnered massive public attention and saw multiple agencies conducting parallel investigations.

With this judgment, a long-standing financial restriction on the family has been lifted, marking another significant development in the lengthy legal outcome of the case. As she continues to rebuild personally and professionally, actor Rhea Chakraborty will next be seen in Hansal Mehta’s Netflix show Family Business.
