Salman Khan’s upcoming war drama Homelandwas previously titled battle of galwanhas faced another hurdle ahead of its theatrical release. According to a report in NDTV, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has put the clearance certificate of the film on hold until further notice, creating uncertainty over its release schedule.

The film, inspired by the 2020 Galwan Valley clash between Indian and Chinese troops, was initially scheduled to release on April 17, ahead of Eid. The date was later postponed, with the makers reportedly eyeing an August release around the Independence Day weekend. However, with the certification process still pending, the film is now expected to miss that release window as well.
Directed by Apoorva Lakhia and produced by Salma Khan under the Salman Khan Films banner, Homeland Salman Khan plays Colonel Santosh Babu, the commanding officer of 16 Bihar Regiment, who led Indian troops during the Galwan Valley confrontation while implementing a disengagement agreement on the border. Chitrangada Singh stars in the lead role, while Abhilash Chaudhary and Ankur Bhatia also play important roles. The music of the film has been composed by Himesh Reshammiya.
The film has been embroiled in controversies even before its release. After its teaser aired online, many users on the Chinese social media platform Weibo criticized the project, alleging that it misrepresented the events surrounding the Galwan Valley conflict.
Earlier this year, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) had distanced itself from reports that it had objections to the film. Responding to questions on the matter, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “We understand that such a film is being planned. As you are well aware, issues related to film production in India are looked after by the concerned authorities. And as far as we are concerned, the Ministry of External Affairs has no role in this or such ventures.”
