It is learned that the delay and change in the title was caused by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). A source told”The CBFC screening committee that watched the film did not find certain scenes and themes acceptable. The process took some time, due to which the makers decided to delay the release of the film by two weeks.”

The source further added, “Also, ‘Pondicherry’ was asked to be removed from the title. The CBFC members were of the opinion that the film has some mature content, which should not be associated with the Union Territory.”

cut list of Heer Sara Mentions that the title of the film was modified. The makers were also asked to remove a derogatory word in the second half of the film. Once the amendments were made, the CBFC passed Heer Sara On 29 May with an ‘A’ certificate. The length of the film as mentioned on the censor certificate is 99 minutes and 17 seconds. In other words, Heer Sara is 1 hour, 39 minutes and 17 seconds long.

Directed by Karthik Chaudhary, Heer Sara Patralekha and Maanvi Gagroo star in the lead roles, with Arif Zakaria, Shweta Salve and Nishank Verma also playing important supporting roles. The film traces the emotional and transformational journey of two women as they go through personal struggles, societal expectations and emotional healing.

The CBFC order has created panic in the industry. An industry insider commented, “Films like kashmir files (2022), story of kerala (2023), udaipur files (2025) and The Bengal Files (2025) was passed by the CBFC without asking the producers to change their titles. Agra (2024) and Aligarh (2016) were also released with their original titles. Then why was it such a lovely, heart-touching film? Heer Sara and Pondicherry Was taken apart and its title changed?”
