Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari is looking to collect Rs. 3 crore nett approximately on 2nd Saturday. The jump from Friday is about 50 percent, which is on the lower end of the typical trajectory these days. Movies aimed at major centers these days often double or at least almost double on Saturdays. The likely reason for this lower growth is that on Friday there was a BOGO offer, which increased activity a little and today, with no offer in play, activity is at a normal level.
The film now costs Rs. 1,999. 8.50 crores nett approximately in the second weekend, which will be a drop of almost 60% compared to last weekend. The fall isn’t good, but it’s not bad either. The biggest problem is that these funds come from a low level of collections. The total at the end of the day today will be around Rs. 45 crores net. The film will cross Rs. 1,999. 50 crore net by Tuesday, if not Monday. It’s not that Rs. 50 crores is a good number, but at one point it looked like it would fall short. The BOGO offer during the week helped to keep it going, as well as the holiday period and the open house week.
Post-pandemic, genre or mid-range films in general are struggling. One of the main factors behind this phenomenon is the erosion of the theater base through digital technology. The eight-week period, intended to protect theatrical activity, turns out to be little more than a gate on an open fence. Larger event films, backed by anticipation, can still overcome this problem, but mid-sized films without anticipation factor are relegated to OTT films by audiences since they only have to wait eight weeks to see them. There have been films that were well-reviewed and well-received, but even they didn’t score as high as they would have back in the day. Jolly LLB 3 and Sitaare Zameen Par are two great examples this year.
Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari had a pretty good trailer. The songs weren’t big hits, but they were good. In the past, this would have given the film an opening. As of now, this has not helped the company as the audience is more than willing to wait for the OTT premiere. The industry needs to make this wait inconvenient by extending the window to around six months; otherwise, it’s tough for genre and mid-range films.
The box office collections of Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari in India are as follows:
