Tulsi Kumari of Sunny Sanskari collected Rs. 1 crore on Wednesday, a 30 percent decline from Tuesday’s discount. The drop makes sense when ticket prices return to normal on Wednesday. But the problem is the overall low base of its collection. The total earning of the film was Rs. Earning Rs 53 crore at the Indian box office. It was in its second week at around Rs. 54 crores.
At one time it seemed that the film would have to struggle even to reach Rs 1 crore. The figure of 50 crores. However, it saw a good increase on weekdays due to the buy-one-get-one offer, which is active from its first Monday. This romantic comedy drama is expected to cross Rs. 55 crore figure in the coming weekend. And, then it will have to face two new releases – Thamma and Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat. Depending on how it performs after Diwali, its lifetime collections could be around Rs. 57 crore to Rs. Net in India Rs 59 crore.
However, that won’t change the fate of the Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor starrer, which was sealed in its opening weekend and was a flop.
Genre and mid-budget films have generally been struggling in the post-pandemic times. What was working earlier is no longer attracting the audience. One major reason for this is the erosion of the theatrical base by digital platforms. Producers need to extend the 8-week OTT window to at least 6 months to revive the business and make the wait inconvenient for audiences.
