Trade estimates suggest that ‘Hai Jawaani Toh Ishq Hona Hai’ may open at Rs. 7-8 crores; Experts speak on David Dhawan’s possible retirement: “What a wonderful career he has had…”
Trade veteran Taran Adarsh said, “David Dhawan is making a comeback after a very long gap, that too with his son. I want to see this film for him. I just hope that he doesn’t repeat anything that has been repeated again and again. That’s because the audience today has seen all his films. He is a director with a great filmography who has made some of the most watched films. Also, he is not going to direct films again after this.” If you are young then you have to fall in love. What a career he has had! It calls for celebration and I hope it lives up to those expectations.”
Trade analyst Atul Mohan said, “The buzz is there and it seems to be a light-hearted entertainer. There hasn’t been a solo film of Varun Dhawan for a long time. Also, its music has also become popular. Also, David Dhawan is associated with the film. So, we hope it will be a fun comic film.”
Producer and film business analyst, Girish Johar commented, “It is a mass entertainer. It remains to be seen whether it can connect with Gen Z and the younger generation with its jokes, songs etc.”
Distributor and exhibitor Raj Bansal said, “There has not been a film for the youth for several weeks. So, it is likely to get a good opening. Now it all depends on the content.”
When asked about the opening day numbers, everyone was unanimous that the film would have a good opening but might not be able to open in double digits.
Raj Bansal said, “My guess is that it will take an opening of Rs 7-8 crore. I don’t know how popular the music of the film has been. If it does well, the film may take an opening of more than Rs 1-2 crore. But if the music does not work as expected, it will take an opening of Rs 7-8 crore.”
He said, “A double digit opening seems difficult. But if the report is positive then we may see a huge jump on Saturday and Sunday.”
Atul Mohan predicted, “Rs 7-8 crore should be easily made.”
Girish Johar told, “I don’t think there is a possibility of an opening of more than Rs 10 crore. It should be within double digits. I am hopeful that it will have a good weekend at the box office.”
Taran Adarsh expressed happiness, saying, “Varun should get double digit openings because it is very important. I don’t know how he will achieve it. I hope the word of mouth is good and the walk-ins on the first day will be equally enthusiastic.”
He signed off by saying, “This is his father’s film. It is being produced by one of the best production houses; Ramesh Taurani ji is a brilliant producer. He has never compromised on quality and has given his directors a free hand to make a good quality product. In this film, the entire responsibility of making it happen is on the Dhawan family!”
