Karthi-starrer Va Vaathiyar has officially concluded its theatrical run, and the final box office numbers paint a disappointing picture. The Tamil action-comedy managed to collect around Rs 10 crore nett in India, failing to make an impact at the ticket counters.
As per trade estimates, the film earned approximately Rs 9 crore from the Tamil Nadu box office, while the rest of India contributed just about Rs 1 crore. With these numbers, Va Vaathiyar ends its run as yet another underperformer for Studio Green, following the lukewarm box office outcomes of Thangalaan and Kanguva.
Pongal release fails to deliver
Despite releasing during the lucrative Pongal 2026 weekend, Va Vaathiyar could not capitalize on the festive advantage. The film received mixed reviews from both critics and audiences, which significantly affected its word-of-mouth and overall box office prospects. Trade experts believe that stronger audience reception could have pushed the numbers higher.
The film was bankrolled by KE Gnanavel Raja under the Studio Green banner and was announced as a Pongal release barely a week in advance, following the postponement of Thalapathy Vijay’s Jana Nayagan. However, the sudden and unplanned release strategy appears to have backfired, as a section of the audience was reportedly unaware of the film’s arrival in theatres.

About the film
