Dhanush is all set to hit the big screen with the action film Kaara later this summer. Ahead of its release, the actor has announced his next venture, which is tentatively titled D55. The upcoming film will be directed by Amaran fame Rajkumar Periyasamy, marking his first collaboration with the actor.

Sharing the update, the makers wrote, “D55 – A grand new beginning. Wunderbar Films is delighted to team up with Artek Studios for this big project! Exciting update loading soon!”

Initially, the film was announced with another production house backing the project. However, the previous producer reportedly backed out and transferred all the rights to Dhanush’s home production banner.
According to reports, Sai Pallavi is being considered to play the female co-lead role. Additionally, buzz suggests that Mammootty is also in talks to play an important role in the film. However, these are unconfirmed and not yet officially announced by the manufacturers.
If the speculations prove to be true, this will be the second time Dhanush and Mammootty will share the screen, after the Maari actor’s cameo appearance in the 2013 Malayalam film Proprietor: Kammath & Kammath.

Dhanush was last seen in the lead role in the Hindi language film Tere Ishq Mein. Directed by Aanand L Rai, the film tells the story of a man named Shankar, who develops a relationship with Mukti while she is doing her PhD research on Mukti.
After Mukti ends their relationship, Shankar loses his temper and creates chaos before leaving his old life behind. Years later, when they meet again their unresolved past resurfaces and the film tells what happens next. The film is set to stream on Netflix from January 23, 2026.
Looking ahead, Dhanush will next be seen in the action-thriller Kaara. Directed by Vignesh Raja of Por Thozhil fame, the film is the story of a man who is stuck between virtue and sin after several acts in his life. As he faces the consequences, he will have to deal with many challenges and protect his family at all costs.
Along with Mamita Baiju as the female co-lead, the film also stars Karunas, Jayaram, Suraj Venjaramoodu and many others in lead roles.
