Border is looking to collect Rs.2. Earning around Rs 33-34 crore on the second day at the Indian box office. This represents a 20 percent increase from the opening day of Rs. 28 crore nett, making its two-day total box office collection Rs. Around Rs 61-62 crore nett. For a film like Border 2, which opens well and has a major share of the business coming from smaller centres, a flat second day or a slight surge is considered acceptable. For this to show a huge increase of up to 20 percent is a seal of approval from the audience.
The best growth for the film came in the Mumbai circuit, which grew by almost 40 percent from its opening day. The growth in the Mumbai-Pune belt was even better, close to 50 per cent, while Gujarat is seeing a growth of 30 per cent. Gujarat is a Sunday state when it comes to the box office and there should be a huge surge in business tomorrow. Mumbai Circuit was lower on the opening day, but today’s rise has brought it on board, and it should consolidate further over the next two days.
The northern circuits, which were the best performers for the film on day one, also managed to make some gains today, with Delhi-NCR and Rajasthan seeing notable growth. Punjab was relatively flat as the opening day was due to half-holiday. Uttar Pradesh could have lagged behind, but it also managed to remain on par with the opening day numbers. The performance in the Eastern Circuit fell short of expectations, helped by the first day off.
Overall, the second day has put the film in a much stronger position. The opening day was a little weaker than expectations, but this surge has resolved that. The advance amount for Sunday has already been deposited in a big way and tomorrow it may see a big increase, with Rs. It looks like a deal worth more than Rs 40 crore has been done and there is a possibility of even more. This will lock the money. The film earned Rs 100 crore net weekend and then Monday is the big national holiday of Republic Day, which will be another big day for the film.
