Jayantilal Gada wins legal battle over Mehul Kumar’s conviction in 9 check bounce cases after 19 years: Report
According to a report published by Film Information, the cases were registered under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, which deals with check dishonor offences. The controversy reportedly stems from financial arrangements related to several film projects initiated by Mehul Kumar, real name Mohammed Ibrahim Baloch.
According to Jayantilal Gada’s allegations, his company had financed several projects involving Mehul Kumar in the late 1990s. These reportedly included films like chaos And how far how close. GADA claimed that the financing agreements were made on the basis of assurances of repayment, profit-sharing arrangements and participation in sustainable revenues from various rights associated with the films.
However, the financier alleged that despite repeated assurances and settlement discussions for several years, the dues were not paid. He further claimed that several repayment installment checks issued by Mehul Kumar got dishonoured, which eventually led to several legal proceedings being initiated against the filmmaker.
The case gradually expanded into several court cases, including check bounce complaints, recovery proceedings and fraud allegations. After years of hearings and legal arguments, the Mazagaon Court has now reportedly passed conviction orders in nine separate check dishonor cases.
The report further said that Jayantilal Gada may pursue additional legal measures in the future, including seeking enhanced punishment and recovery of pending dues. It is said that many other proceedings related to the dispute are also pending in various courts.
The sentence marks a significant development in one of the long-running financial disputes within the Hindi film industry. The case has once again highlighted the financial complexities and legal challenges associated with film financing and production partnerships in Bollywood.
At present, Mehul Kumar has not publicly commented on the court’s decision.
