Exclusive: Slaughter 2 trailer to drop on January 27; Luv Ranjan revealed why it is not a “forced sequel”: “When a small film does well, producers try to make the sequel grand…We have not made any changes to it”
When did you decide there would be a sequel? slaughter Would be a good idea?
Jaspal Singh Sandhu sir and I were discussing what to do next. We realized that there couldn’t be a true sequel to this film. The story of the two characters of the first part was over. However, the concept ofslaughter‘ can be seen again by exploring another social evil and how a simple man fights it to protect his loved one.

Realistically speaking, I don’t need 8 shows in a 4-screen multiplex or I don’t need 2 full screens. Right now we have huge capacity of theater and screen. So, this shouldn’t be a problem.

The journey of love films has been interesting. You have worked not only with newcomer directors but also with experienced filmmakers like Hansal Mehta, Mohit Suri etc. and have made exciting films with them…
We started in 2017 and our first release was in 2018. So, our company is still in the early stages and we are figuring things out. However, we as manufacturers are quite greedy. We want to do all types of films. I want to work with veterans and filmmakers whose work I admire and like. They can do things I can’t do. He has his own style and signature. But at the same time, I built my career by working with new people – actors, technicians etc. So, there is always a temptation to give a break to new people and explore new ideas. At some point, someone supported my career and journey. That’s how I became a director. Now, if we are in a position to let someone find their voice, we want to continue to do so.
Many moviegoers feel, and I also believe, that a ‘Luv Ranjan style’ exists in Bollywood. Recent releases of Shashank Khaitan Tulsi Kumari of Sunny Sanskari (2025) had the characters doing things that were directly directed by Luv Ranjan. (laughs) Same thing happened with me too. We grew up in that area. It’s a fun, interesting place. It’s a matter of habit, more than anything else. People travel far and wide to eat Sardar Pav Bhaji. When you grow accustomed to something, it becomes a habit.
