Ajith Kumar’s Mankatha recorded a stellar opening weekend in its re-release. The film made Rs. Earned more than. Earned ₹9.50 crore in first three days of theatrical run in Tamil Nadu, third day’s contribution was around Rs. 3 crores. Rest of India total amount Rs. 70 lakh, total box office collection is Rs. Earned Rs 10.25 crore in India.
With such an impressive performance, the film emerged as the biggest weekend opener among Tamil re-releases of all time. The Ajith Kumar starrer overtook the previous record holder Gilli, which had a weekend collection of Rs. 8.65 crores. One should note that the third day of Gilli was Monday as it was a re-release on Saturday.
However, one important difference is that Mankatha has been released with somewhat normal pricing whereas Gilly was sold at lower prices.
